Crimes Against Queers

The stigma against queers was so strong that even the accusation of being a homosexual could destroy a person’s life in many ways, such as losing a job or ostracization from friends and family. Such prejudice gave rise to blackmail rackets, and some criminals could avoid incrimination entirely by claiming their victim was a homosexual.
